THE WELS STATE MUSIC SCHOOL
The music school system in Wels can look back on a long tradition. Earlier peaks included Master Singing (Hans Sachs tarried here) and the music groups of the
" Stadtthurner" (entertainers). In 1881 the "Association of Music Friends in Wels" established the first Music School in Wels, whose aim it was to provide "music lessons for poor but talented youngsters at the expense of the association".
In 1909 the Music School moved into the Palace of Pollheim, where the State Music School is still housed today. In 1940 The Wels Music School was integrated into the regional administration as a "Music School for youth and the people" and remained a city establishment until it was absorbed into the Upper Austria State Music School System (1980). Today about 1800 pupils are taught by 74 teachers at the State Music School (LMS) in Wels.
The range of courses at the LMS Wels is characterized by a wide choice of subjects.
Central emphasis is put especially on singing, string playing and ensemble work. The construction of a school organ has made it possible to break ground in the field of organ and church music.
